Born in New Zealand, I originally had a successful career in business and the fashion world. While on holiday in Indonesia in the early 1980’s I discovered natural medicine and was inspired to self study Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, meditation and the Chinese martial art of tai Chi. Next followed seven years of tertiary studies in Australia in Traditional Chinese Medicine, myotherapy, and a wide range of massage and bodyworks techniques. My business name- "neilsbodyworks", simple- (Neil works with bodies, mostly living). I have devoted my life to working to share my 35 years of clinical experience to helping clients become the best body they can be.
I graduated from RMIT university in 1989 after 2,300 hours of myotherapy training, and completed 3 years of further training to graduate as a Chinese Medicine practitioner specialising in acupuncture. I was in private practice until 2018 in a variety of settings including medical centres, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Canberra, and home based as well as clinic based practices. I shared my knowledge and experience through workshops from home based to within hospitals and to such a wide range of health practitioners, doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths, podiatrists, physiotherapists, dentists, Chinese Medicine practitioners, and every persuasion of bodyworkers like massage, shiatsu, Bowen, MLD etc. Since 1998 I have enjoyed the rewards of passing on that knowledge so generously shared with me by others, by combining my clinical practice with teaching at a number of tertiary institutes in broad areas of health science, Chinese medicine, natural medicine, and business. For years I led workshops at a leading University "wet lab" studying cadavers (dead bodies) to learn more about the wide varieties and variations of the human body.
I am passionate to share my knowledge and lived experience before I die. At 80 years I am in excellent health but work at it and feel younger but acutely aware that at my age, life expectancy is limited. My You Tube channels and website will be my legacy. My passion is helping you remove pain and dysfunction from your life from my lived experiences of chronic pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, osteoporosis, and nervous illnesses. I strive to help you find the cause of your pain, not just treat the symptoms. So much of my success as a health practitioner was from listening at length to my client's stories and being a detective, looking for any clue as to why they were experiencing pain and dysfunction. Often, they had the answer, they were just too close to see the answer.
